Measuring Metal

When ordering steel the length and width need to be specified but also the thickness.   The thickness of metal is called its gauge (sometimes spelled gage).   Specialized measuring tools, called callipers (calipers is the American spelling)  are used to determine the thickness.

Steel can come in sheets or coils.
