To File

The verb “to file” means very different things if you are out on the factory floor compared to being in an office.  In an office if you have to file something, it usually refers to documents that have to be put away in a filing cabinet.   On the factory floor when something has to be filed it is talking about a rough edge that has to be smoothed out with a tool.  This could be on something metal or plastic.  In the picture for this article the tool shown is known as file.  This would be a noun in this case.  You use a file to file something.   Other names for a file are a hand file, or a hand bastard.
