SKU
Let’s start with a definition. A stock keeping unit is a specific product that has a unique part number for differentiating it from other products. So if a store had only five pens of different colours and that was their only product, how many SKUs would they have? The answer is five. Although the pens are exactly the same in every way except for colour, a red pen would have one SKU and a blue pen another.
It might look like this: 457-RD and 457-BL (RD being a short form for Red and BL for blue) Part numbers or SKU numbers are often very long with a lot of numbers and letters which contain a little information about the product such as colour.
Just a note in case you think I do not know how to spell colour or color, the first is correct in Britain and Canada, the second is normal in the United States.
