Screwdrivers

Welcome to tool week.   Today we will talk about screwdrivers.   First a definition.   A screwdriver is a device which is needed to sink a screw into some material.

These tools are necessary because most times it is impossible to twist a screw into wood, metal or any other material with hand strength.   Just try it!   You might be able to get a screw started if the material is soft enough or if a hole has already been started.

There are many types of screwdrivers but I will only list a few of the more common ones.

Phillips - Have a four pointed star shaped tip which fits in the head of the screw.

Robertson - Have a square shaped tip which fits in the head of the screw.

Flathead - Have a flat tip which fits in the head of the screw.

Hex - Have a six sided end which fits over and encloses the top of the screw.   There are also hex systems similar to the screwdrivers mentioned above where the tip fits into the screw head.
