Nuts and Bolts

In manufacturing there are many ways to fasten things together; one of the most common is to use nuts and bolts.   What is a nut and bolt?   The bolt part of this device is a cylindrical piece of metal with spiraling threads and a hexagonal shaped head.   The nut is also a hexagonal shape but has matching threads which allow it to be joined to the bolt with a turning motion.    The treads are the ridges that go around the outside of the bolt but the inside of the nut which allow them to join together.

Sample sentences.

George went to the storage racks to get another box of bolts.

The threads on the bolt were stripped because the torque was set too high on the electric screwdriver.

Six millimetre bolts were too big for the hole so I used a five millimetre size instead.
