Making things stick together.
While there are very powerful glues that can even hold metal together, usually they are not strong enough. You would not want your car held together with glue instead of welds. And that is the word for today. Weld.
Definition: A weld occurs when metal is heated enough to make it soft for a short period of time so that it bonds with other metal. Sometimes new metal is used to bring two pieces together or in the case of a spot weld, only heat in the form of an electrical current does the work.
